By Bettina Laura Sidy

Sumary

This paper will seek to understand one of the mechanisms by which the governors of Buenos Aires sought to impose a new order in the city during the 18th century. In order to achive this propose we’ll analyse the bandos ordinarios, to understand the specificities that characterize the documents. In particular we will focus on teaching characteristics and instructive and how various thematic relating to urban life is involved each other along the length of statements, showing social, political and legal complexity behind the various mandates and the difficulties that encloses an exclusive classification into them. The bandos ordinarios appear reinforcing mandates contained in the bandos de buen gobierno, or by calling attention to certain contingencies of concern to the authorities and in this respect are essential tools to understanding society at that time.
