Inglés Jurídico - Nivel Inicial (Parte 1)

* Nivel requerido: Inglés Intermedio (niveles 5 y 6 de Extensión Universitaria, Derecho, UBA)

El objetivo del curso es alcanzar un conocimiento básico de la terminología jurídica en inglés y de los conceptos jurídicos fundamentales del derecho inglés y norteamericano a través de ejercicios de vocabulario y gramática adaptados a los temas propuestos, la participación activa de los alumnos y el desarrollo de las habilidades de comprensión lectora y auditiva y de expresión oral y escrita.

Programa

- The language of the law: basic legal terms and concepts. Legalese: legal language, Latin terms, older words and modern equivalents.

- The legal profession: practice areas, classification of lawyers, legal education, a lawyer?s CV, law firm structure.

- Central features of the British and American legal systems: Common Law, Equity, Civil Law, classification and sources of law.

- Constitutional Law: The British and American Constitutions, the separation of powers, the rule of law, judicial review.

- Court Structure in the UK and the US: types of jurisdiction, types of courts, tribunals, litigation and arbitration.

- Civics: miscellaneous questions for the US Naturalization Test (History and Government).
